Beckhoff at Prolight + Sound, Hall 9.0, Booth E72
Stage and show technology: PC- and EtherCAT-based control technology – the universal platform for all systems
This year, for the first time ever, Beckhoff is exhibiting at Prolight + Sound, the world’s largest international trade fair for audio, light, event and communication technology, which takes place from 6 to 9 April 2011 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The specialists for PC-based automation are presenting their solutions for a wide variety of applications in show and stage technology at Booth E72 in Hall 9.

The universal Beckhoff control technology for mechanical engineering and building automation is also ideal for use in stage and show technology on account of its open interfaces. The basis for this is PC-based control and EtherCAT, the real-time Ethernet system.

The Beckhoff I/O systems form the central component for the connection of the entire sensor and actuator systems. The IP 20 terminals encompass more than 400 signal types for the connection of the

  • digital and analog standard signals for the automation and measurement    technology
  • lighting technology (DMX, DALI, dimmer, LED)
  • Drive Technology/actuators (servomotors, DC and stepper motors)

Communication terminals enable the integration of all subsidiary bus systems relevant to show technology and building services, such as DMX and DALI, as well as serial interfaces. The DMX master and slave terminals integrate the “intelligent” lighting technology, from the moving heads to the LED or PAR light sources. Open control technology is also offered by the bus-independent Bus Terminal system, which supports a total of 17 bus systems, such as PROFIBUS, PROFINET, CANopen or RS232/RS485. The Beckhoff product range, consisting of robust Industrial PCs, I/O and fieldbus components, highly dynamic Drive Technology (for the movement of cable winches and stage scenery) and TwinCAT automation software, provides the basis for the automation of the most diverse systems in the field of stage and show technology: from control of the overstage and understage machinery, the entire lighting and the complete building automation through to special effects, such as “water graphics”.

The scalability of the Beckhoff controllers, from the Industrial PC as the central control platform to the local Embedded Controller, allows the selection of a PC format adapted to the respective application. Industrial displays from 5.7- to 24-inch are available for operation and monitoring.

PC-based control technology from Beckhoff is in use on numerous stages and in shows, such as the Scala in Milan, the “light sphere” in the German pavilion at the Expo in Shanghai, the illuminated shell of the Allianz Arena in Munich or the Spidercam camera, which has already provided the world with dynamic pictures from the European Football Championships and the FIFA World Cup.
