Beckhoff at FachPack 2016

At FachPack, the European trade show for packaging, technology, finishing and logistics, which was held in Nuremberg from 27 to 29 September 2016, more than 1,500 exhibitors from Germany and abroad offered a comprehensive overview of the very latest packaging technology. According to the organisers, the focus was on recent developments in areas such as efficiency, sustainability, product safety and Industrie 4.0.

Once again, most of the numerous visitors to the Beckhoff booth were interested in the eXtended Transport System (XTS). This highly compact system offers both maximum freedom to machine designers and optimal flexibility for packaging processes. It makes it easy to switch products and formats during ongoing operation, change software settings at the touch of a button and implement lot-size 1 production and Industrie 4.0 concepts. The compact and modular multi-axis servo system AX8000 as well as EtherCAT P, the single-cable solution for use at field level, and the EL7201-9014 servo terminal with integrated STO safety function were also the focus of visitors’ attention.

Frank Würthner, Business Management Packaging, sums up: “The packaging industry is constantly facing new challenges. In particular, usage patterns are changing, necessitating the use of individual packaging and lot sizes and rapid changeovers in production. PC-based control provides a comprehensive control and motion platform for correspondingly highly flexible and efficient packaging machines. Meanwhile the universal software platform TwinCAT deals with all the necessary packaging functions, from PLC, through CNC and robotics right down to print mark detection. XTS opens up particularly wide potential for innovation in mechanical engineering applications. It makes it possible to replace complex mechanisms using software functionality, make processes and procedures more flexible and optimise the performance of plant and machinery. In this way XTS allows for more compact, more dynamic and more flexible machines.”
